Argolis – Sparta – Monemvasia
Day 1
Your driver will pick you up at your accommodation and drive you to Peloponnesus peninsula, in the south of Greece. First stop, the Corinth Canal, an engineering marvel whose construction began in the late 19th century. We’ll take a 30-minute stop there, so you can snap some pictures and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Next stop, Ancient Corinth. One of the most powerful city-states of the ancient world, Corinth was the epicenter of several important historic events. You will have 1.5 hour to explore the archaeological site and the museum.
The most notable sight in the area is the Temple of Apollo which dates back to the 6th century B.C. and belongs to the Doric order of architecture. The city of Corinth is also the place where St. Paul gave his famous speech in the Agora. That is why he is the patron saint of the city.
Other notable sights are the fountains of Glauke and Peirene, the theater, the marketplace and many other Roman buildings. The museum’s displays include some fine specimens of ancient Corinthian pottery and mosaics.
Our next stop is the city of Mycenae, the seat of power of one of the Trojan War factions. You will enter the citadel through the Lion Gate. The citadel is surrounded by the Cyclopean walls, thought to have been built by the mythical Cyclops due to the enormous size of the stone blocks that they’re made of.
The Archaeological Museum of Mycenae offers interesting insight into the everyday life of the era. And, of course, visiting the Tomb of Agamemnon is mandatory. You will have 30 minutes to explore these places.
Next, we will visit the world-renowned ancient theater of Epidaurus. Built in the 4th century B.C., the theater is known for its amazing acoustics. It hosts plays even to this day. It is located on the southeast end of the sanctuary that is dedicated to the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore the sanctuary for an hour and a half, after which we’ll be off to Nafplion, a beautiful seaside town and the first capital of the modern Greek state. We will be spending the night there.
Day 2
Breakfast in Nafplion, followed by a tour of its most important sights, including Akronafplia and the fortress of Palamidi, before we head off to Sparta.
Two hours later we’ll be arriving at Sparta, one of the most important and powerful city-states of the ancient world. You may choose to visit the Museum of Olive and find out how this valuable plant has been cultivated through the centuries. You should take the opportunity to visit the Tomb of King Leonidas, famous for his stand at Thermopylae.
The tour continues at the beautiful ancient town of Mystras. Hailing back to the Byzantine era, the town’s castle has been declared a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO.
Enjoy the traditional cuisine of picturesque Monemvasia, where we will be spending the night.
Day 3
Explore the sights and tastes of beautiful Monemvasia. After a hearty lunch with local dishes, we’ll be heading back to Athens.

I met mr. Petropoulos one of those days when the agenda of a business trip is so full of appointments that you can’t push in a needle….
I was late to the last appointment before my flight back to Italy and my luggage was still in the hotel. The only option was really to ask Mr. Petropoulos to get my trolley while I was in the last meeting and then bring me straight to the airport. The risk was to remain in XX street and wait forever…well when I went out the bank Lambros was there with my bag in the car and I managed to catch my plane and be safe at home.

Thank you so much Lambros for our wonderful tour. We initially wanted to visit the islands only, but in the end we decided to book a tour in Athens, and we are so glad we did. We learnt so many things about the ancient history of Athens and your passion really made the experience great fun. The sunset in Sounion in particular was majestic and one of the most beautiful moments I’ve had with my wife.
